At the end of 2009, just one Democratic incumbent was out-raised by a Republican challenger.

Four-term Democratic incumbent Timothy Bishop (D-N.Y.), who won his 2008 contest by a 16-point margin. That year, Obama also carried his district. Four years earlier, however, Republican George W. Bush won the area by less than a single percentage point.

Then there is Randy Altschuler, who is a young entrepreneur, running for a chance at New York’s first Congressional District. He is mounting an aggressive campaign against Democrat Tim Bishop. According to his website bio he received his B.A. with High Honors from Princeton University, and his MBA with Distinction from the Harvard Business School following study in Vienna, Austria as a Fulbright Scholar. His campaign has already raised close to one- million dollars. According to Hotline: Altschuler is a member of the Young Guns program.  He got in the race against Bishop early and is off to a fast fundraising start.

Nine House Candidates Outraised Their Incumbent Opponents

Randy Altschuler (R-N.Y.): Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop raised a healthy $1.3 million through Mar. 31 and still found himself outraised overall by Altschuler. Altschuler, who is running against Bishop in New York’s 1st District, reported raising $2 million through Mar. 31.

Randy Altschuler: Taxes are such a huge burden that The Tax Foundation has dubbed… April 9th, as “Tax Freedom Day.” That means that it has taken the average working American family more than the first three months of 2010 to have earned enough merely to pay their Federal, state and local taxes. Just think about it–for more than the first three months of this year, Americans have been working for the government. It is only starting today that the money Americans earn can be used for themselves and their families.

Alternative to abandonment: Baby Safe Haven program’s success touted by national leaders, local EMTs

National and local Safe Haven officials and personnel from local hospitals that participate in the program gathered in Hauppauge Tuesday to draw attention to the Children of Hope Foundation Baby Safe Haven lifesaving service.

Congressional candidate Randy Altschuler (R-St. James), also present, commended the organization for “allowing mothers to give their baby a safe-haven opportunity without penalty.” He added, “Everyone of them is a precious life.”
